Hot Tar and Chipping

Our Hot Tar & Chipping service is when we create a surface dressing, usually to add surface texture and grip to an existing surface.

This creates an area of stone chippings which are securely attached to the surface by the tar, also known as bitumen emulsion. The bitumen emulsion basically glues the chipings to the surface and although the chippings may look loose, they are firmly attached.

We can apply these surfaces to either Tarmac road surfaces or paths, to add surface texture and grip and/or to lessen the visual impact of a black Tarmac path. It creates a non-slip surface for most path users, giving improved skid resistance for cyclists, and more grip for horses, for example.

It has the added benefit of sealing minor cracks in a worn Tarmac or asphalt surface, protecting the paths base against the ingress of water, thereby prolonging its life.

We regularly work in Cambridge and surrounding areas, including Ely, Huntingdon, Sawston, Chatteris, Newmarket and many others.
